BOBBI AND THE STRAYS

Bobbi Giordano of Ozone Park has been rescuing animals since 1998 when she gave up her clothing business to save strays full-time and start “Bobbi and the Strays.” After using people’s homes and yards for boarding her homeless, abandoned and abused animals, she finally found a space at JFK Airport. But with little visibility to the public it’s hard to get these animals adopted. Since her opening at Atlas Park, several animals have been adopted, due to the exposure of their new donated location next to Crazy for Animals.  The location is temporary. It could be six months to a year or longer, we don’t know.  That is why it is so imperative to spread the word now and get as many animals into good homes.  All animals are spayed/neutered an all have up-to-date shots.

Bobbi and her volunteers work endlessly to do whatever it takes to care for and rescue these animals.

The organization usually cares for up to 100 animals at any given time.  This is a great opportunity if you’re looking to adopt and rescue an animal that needs you. And think about what this means to an animal in a cage desperately waiting for a home.  More adoptions allows more room to continue to save animals.  Many of the animals are at the Vetport in (JFK) and many are fostered in peoples’ homes waiting to be adopted; however, there’s never enough room considering how many animals are abandoned, homeless and abused.  And the sad reality is that many are waiting on line in shelters to be euthanized.  Bobbi and her volunteers try to grab as many as they can that sometimes have minutes to live.  But again, where do they put them all when all the cages are filled?

What does it take besides hard work, devotion, love and care?  MONEY!   It makes no sense to be subtle about this. One vet bill can run into the thousands.  Numerous animals come to Bobbi in bad shape, which means serious medical care to save them, and they do it.  Bobbi & the Strays hold fundraisers throughout the year, but it’s not enough. And so many of you generously donate, however; it takes more. Vet bills alone were $66,000 last year.  This does not include all the food, boarding, and all other essentials to operate an animal rescue group.

The bottom line adds up to a several hundred thousand dollars per year.  Over 350 animals were adopted through Bobbi & the Strays last year, animals that may not have made it. So we please ask you to help this local organization.  Every dollar matters. There are various ways to donate. You could drop by their new location at “The Shops at Atlas Park” or mail a donation to: Bobbi and the Strays, P.O. Box 170129, Ozone Park, NY 11417. You can even make a donation online through their website.  We too have a donation box at the store. To see the animals up for adoption and for more information, go to, www.bobbicares.petfinder.org

When you adopt an animal from Bobbi & the Strays, you will receive 50% off your initial purchase at Crazy for Animals!!

A Dog's Soul

Every doggie must have a soul, somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully is hidden from our sight.
A hound must have a secret place, where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.
And when accused unjustly for himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul, the comfort he must seek.
He'll love, tho' he is unloved, and he'll serve tho' badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away the times when he's abused.
Altho' his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog an understanding Soul!
